Sunday, June 15, 2014 – Summary

For the second straight year, the Grey Owl Golf Tournament was won by an early finisher.

Jared Jacobson, 34, played Friday and Saturday, shooting rounds of 69-74-143, one-under-par, and his score stood up for the 54th Grey Owl title.

Rob Hall of Shilo had the best chance to overtake Jacobson on Sunday.  His 15-foot putt for a tying birdie on the 18th green curved past the cup.  Hall had to settle for runner-up spoils, carding even-par 71-73-144.

Garth Collings of Breezy Bend, bidding for his 10th Grey Owl crown, soared to a five-over-par 77 after an opening 70, winding up in 3rd place at 147.  Jay Thiesen of Russell, who won in 2012, finished 4th with 70-78-148.

Ken Mould of St. Charles won the senior division for the third year in a row, posting 74-75-149, to edge Dave Anderson of Surrey, B.C., at 76-74-150.

In the absence of a playoff, Stephen Ripley of won the Media Flight over freelancers Steve Johnston and Mike Beauregard.

In another Grey Owl highlight, Joshua Zaporzan of Clear Lake, had a hole-in-one on the 112-yard 3rd hole, with a pitching wedge.

Saturday, June 14, 2014 – Summary

Jarod Jacobson of Brandon has set a target score of 143, one-under-par, for the championship of the Grey Owl Golf Tournament.
Jacobson added to his opening round three-under-par 69, with a second round 74 today in rainy, cool conditions at Clear Lake.
Garth Collings of Breezy Bend will take dead aim on that target on Sunday, shooting for his 10th Grey Owl title. He carded a two-under-par 70 in his first round.
Also in contention is 2012 champion Jay Thiesen of Russell, who matched the 70 of Collings.  They are followed by Rob Hall of Shilo at 71, and his clubmate Nolan Tutkaluk at par 72.
Ken Mould of St. Charles will have a shot at a double victory Sunday.  His 74 puts him in position to win a third straight senior division honour as well as the championship.
It took a score of 77 to make the Championship Flight and 18 golfers did so.
The Championship Flight will tee-off between 10:00 am and 10:30 am on Sunday at Clear Lake.

Friday, June 13 – Summary

With adverse weather threatening at Clear Lake, Jarod Jacobson of Brandon is in excellent position to win the 54th Grey Owl Golf Tournament today.

Jacobson shot a 3-under-par 69 in the first round of the 36-hole event.  He had 5 birdies on his card, and the only blemishes were bogies on the 11th and 15th holes.

Jacobson has a three-stroke lead over Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo, who opened with a par 72.

The Grey Owl two-time defending senior champion, Ken Mould of St. Charles, is bidding for a three-peat.
Mould posted a 2-over-par 74 in his opening round.

Most of the field of 254 golfers played in warm sunshine, but the late starters finished in light showers.

The Clear Lake course is in exceptionally good condition for the early season tournament.

Flight results will be posted Sunday at the latest.
