2018-06-10: Grey Owl 2018 Final Results

The Grey Owl Golf Tournament crowned a back-to-back winner today (Sunday) at Clear Lake.

Twenty-two-year-old Nick Myhre of Rolette, North Dakota, shot a closing round 71 for a 36 hole total of 136 8-under par, winning by 3 strokes over Justin McDonald of Breezy Bend.  It was a repeat runner-up finish for McDonald, who carded 68-71-139.

The Grey Owl has had some adverse weather conditions in its 58 year history but not this season.  It was ideal all weekend, and the golfers played in a bright, warm atmosphere in the Sunday round on the Riding Mountain Park layout.

Finishing in third place was Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo at 70-78-148.  Travis Fifi of Regina was fourth at 72-78-150 and in fifth place was Kolby Day of Shilo at 75-76-151.

Eleven-time champion Garth Collings of Breezy Bend settled for the 60-plus Greyer Owl title, at 77-70-147 3-over-par.  He won the Glen Sinclair Memorial Trophy.

Stephen Johnston of QX104 won his fourth Media Flight honour with rounds of 84-75-159, capturing the Ralph Bagley Memorial Trophy, which was dedicated for first time play.

2018-06-09: Grey Owl Saturday Results

Defending champion Nick Myhre (My-ray) of Rolette, North Dakota, vaulted into the lead in the 2018 Grey Owl Golf Tournament today (Saturday) at Clear Lake.

Myhre shot a sizzling 31-34-65, 2 strokes of the course record 63 set by Brandon’s Grant Coulter in the 1990 Grey Owl.  The North Dakota State 22-year-old student had 5 birdies plus an eagle 3 on the 5th hole in his round today.

He has a 3-stroke lead over Justin McDonald of Breezy Bend, who carded 68 on Friday.  Next on the leaderboard going into Sunday’s finish of the 36-hole event are Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo at 70, and Jack McDiarmid of Calgary and Travis Fifi of Regina, who posted rounds of par 72.

McDiarmid also is leading the 60-plus Greyer Owl flight, followed by Mark Olson of Breezy Bend at 75.

Barry Clayton of the Portage Graphic at 83, and Stephen Johnston of QX-104 with 84, are the first round pace setters in the Media flight.

Fifteen golfers who shot 77 or better will advance to Sunday’s Championship flight with a starting tee time of 10:00am.


2018-06-08: Grey Owl Friday 1st Round Results

Last year’s runner-up Justin McDonald of Breezy Bend fired a 4-under-par 68 to set the early pace in the 58th annual Grey Owl golf tournament at Clear Lake.

McDonald had 7 birdies and 3 bogies playing in ideal conditions at the Riding Mountain Park course today  (Friday).

Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo is 2 strokes back after a 2-under-par 70.  Former champion Jarod Crane of Brandon also carded a 2-under-par 70, but has elected not to compete in Sunday’s championship flight.

Another former winner, Jack McDiarmid of Calgary, is a contender in the 36-hole event, after a first round par 72.  He also is the leader in the 60+ Greyer Owl flight with that score. Mark Olson of Breezy Bend is next after posting 75.

Barry Clayton of the Portage Graphic shot 83 and is tops in the Media flight.
